Schutzhund. A way of Life.

What is Schutzhund? It is a 3 discipline sport that tests a dog's nerves, focus and abilities. It was developed in Germany in the early 1900's as a breed suitability test for the German Shepherd breed. The test would determine if the dog displayed the appropriate traits and characteristics of a proper working German Shepherd. Now, it is a sport where many different breeds can compete and succeed.

There have been many changes and adjustments to the sport throughout the years. It is not a form of personal protection, and training is not focused on aggression. It requires time and dedication to all 3 disciplines for a dog to title successfully. Both show and working line Shepherds have been successful in the sport, but each dog requires its handlers to understand their uniqueness and that not every dog will excel rapidly. Our training sessions are not a typical "training" class. Each handler is required to handle his/her own dog and be responsible for training at home. However, many members are able and willing to meet outside of a formal club training session to work with those that may encounter obstacles. The sport is very involved and success is often times reliant on a handler's dedication and bond to his/her dog.

The Aloha Schutzhund Club is a non-profit organization that perpetuates the education and awareness of the sport of Schutzhund. We are a small club that is dedicated to training and acquiring titles for our dogs.
